How?

Monarch Chamber Players (MCP) core musicians are projected to play between 10-20 concerts in our ‘24-25 season, and will assist in concert organization, programming, operations, marketing, and more…all core members have a specific administrative role. Most concerts occur between September - June, with heavy emphasis on December holiday concerts. Most concerts take place in Houston with the potential for touring in Texas. MCP specializes in outdoor neighborhood performances in unconventional venues, as well as formal indoor concerts. Please note that MCP performs standing. All concerts and administrative activities are paid.

Additional “extra” musicians have opportunities to perform as needed–MCP needs extra musicians occasionally throughout our season!

For core positions, Monarch’s performance schedule is not typically conducive to full-time students’ schedules

Position Details

  1. Introduce your first piece as if you’re playing for an audience of adults who do not typically attend classical music concerts.

  2. Play a 2 minute solo piece (examples include concerto exposition, solo Bach, contemporary unaccompanied piece, etc.)

  3. Introduce your second piece as if you’re playing for a mixed audience of some adults who know classical music, some who have never been to a classical music show, and children.

  4. Play 2 minute solo or excerpt (examples include the same as above, or a substantial orchestral excerpt)

  5. Play chamber music excerpts from “The Nutcracker” arranged for wind quintet, Beethoven string trio op 9 no 1, or harp chamber piece TBD with current MCP musicians. Music will be sent when you send your resume.

  6. Potential sight reading with current MCP musicians.

  7. For core member positions only - Let’s talk! Some things to think about…what are some venues where you think Monarch should perform? What is a piece of repertoire or a program you are interested in leading? What are your strengths? What do you think you could contribute to the Monarch team? What is your chamber music experience?
